What's holding you back? The world of Live Video awaits...
19th February 2018
Be honest: Have you ever broadcast a live video? If not, we challenge you to make that day today!
It is a well known fact that video already accounts for more than two thirds of traffic on the web, and the revolution is well and truly here... In 2018, with live video being actively promoted across Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and now LinkedIn too, the time has come - there is no ignoring it....
Best to get ahead rather than get left behind!
If you Skype, you will know how difficult it can be to switch on your camera and talk face-to-face - even if you are talking to a really close friend.
In one sense, this is somewhat ridiculous - many of us spend our days meeting up with colleagues, clients, friends, and very often don't give our appearance too much thought once we get beyond the initial handshake. Yet somehow, if you are using a computer and you can see yourself on the screen while you're talking, it's such a bizarre and unusual state to be in that crazy thoughts start to run through your head...
Do I look smart enough?... What is my hair looking like?... Will I win that contract if they actually see who I am?... Will I say something stupid? Worse still, the other person might select to leave their own camera off, leaving you feeling more exposed and vulnerable than ever! (What is the etiquette of turning your own camera off and retreating back into the shadows once a meeting is in progress, you wonder? Is it best to stick it out to the bitter end?!...)
Well, the answer is a definitive YES: You must not give in!!
The fact is, if people can see you, they will take more notice of you. They will remember you more, and if you communicate properly, they will remember your message, and at the very least, admire your originality, sticking power and sheer bravery!
If being in front of a camera is scary for you, then just think of it as an extremely good incentive for being prepared!
If seeing your own image in front of you while you are talking is freaking you out, then put something in front of your own screen so you can carry on talking without being able to see your reflection. It's simple, but it works! And if you don't want to be on your own, then make sure you can be interviewed by someone - it makes the conversation much more dynamic and more interesting for the viewer too.
As long as you are clear about the message you want to get across, you will be off to a flying start... The key is to tell a STORY. So make sure what you say has a definite and structured beginning, middle and end, and stick to the plot! And make sure you talk about topics you really know lots about - people really will believe your authority then.
The more you practice, the better you will become, and before you know it, you will be just as impressive as all the other video bloggers out there - or even more so.
If you are scared about getting going, why not set yourself up a fresh, private account with no friends or contacts linked to it, and try just broadcasting to yourself for a while? You can also download autocue apps onto your phone, so if you are worried about losing your thread, you can set your phone up next to your camera, to make sure you never run out of words!
If you are still stuck - don't panic! That's exactly what we are here for!
