Durham Pointers

Background

In response to the closure of County Durham's Tourist Information Centres, four individuals in Durham City clubbed together in 2012, determined to establish a group of signposting volunteers, bearing pink tabards and located prominently in the city's Market Place, to act as new, visual signposts to welcome visitors and tourists, helping to advise them, handing out literature and pointing them on their way around the city centre,

PR, Social Media, Branding, Digital, and Print

Right from the get-go, Glow have worked closely with the Pointers to publicise all aspects of the Pointers’ campaign. In their earliest days, we obtained significant media coverage for the group on a regular basis and provided PR assistance to maximise the success of their annual recruitment drive. We also aided their communications by setting up their social media feeds and establishing a strong presence for the group on social media which they could then run themselves. We also helped them to draft extensive awards applications, and providing regular photography services.
In recent years, we have homogenised their branding through branding development and designing all their literature. We have designed posters, maps, flags and flyers to give to members of the public. We have produced signage and livery for their bicycle-style stand in the Market Place. We have also redeveloped their website.

Result

Durham Pointers have become a highly successful and greatly respected group within the city, winners of The Queens Award for Voluntary Service, and Gold Award Winners for North East Tourism Visitor Information Provider of the Year.

It is a real treat to have worked so closely with the group over such an extended period of time, and to have been able to help them go from strength to strength. We are huge supporters of the Pointers and we look forward to serving them for many more years to come.
